samflower: Touchpoint math.It was the big new trend with teachers when I was in elementary school, and pretty much messed me up for life I think.
I still have to touch the dots when I do math on paper/mentally. Instead of memorizing 3 + 6 = 9, we’d have to go: one, two, three, plus onetwo, threefour, fivesix = nine. (I think…wait, lemme re-dot it….ok yeah.)
OCD much?

walpaper: Huh? 7 has four dots? 8 has four dots? wha?

This can’t possibly make sense on any planet. Were they really just trying to screw up your lives or something?

I actually think I benefited from it.  I mean, I don’t use the counting method for basic arithmetic, but when adding up long columns of numbers by hand, it definitely comes in… well… handy (no pun intended, I promise).
And the ringed dots are meant to be counted twice.
